A Fish Named Obama!

A newly discovered species of fish have been named after U.S. presidents and a vice president, including Barack Obama.

Professor Richard Mayden of the Saint Louis University’s Department of Biology and Dr. Steven Layman of Geosyntec Consultants discovered the new species of darter fish.

According to Politico, the two described them in a new article in the Bulletin of the Alabama Museum of Natural History.

“We chose President Obama for his environmental leadership, particularly in the areas of clean energy and environmental protection, and because he is one of our first leaders to approach conservation and environmental protection from a more global vision," Layman said about the Obama fish, as quoted by BuzzFeed.

The researchers also named other species of the fish after former Presidents Bill Clinton, Teddy Roosevelt, and Jimmy Carter and former Vice President Al Gore.

The fish were named for those leaders because of their environmental stewardship.

Powerfull earthquake in japan high alert stunami 7.4 sock

A tsunami alert has been issued following a powerful earthquake off the east coast of Japan. The US Geological Survey says the magnitude 7.4 quake was recorded at a depth of 33 kilometres, 333km from Sendai. A warning for a one-metre tsunami was issued for the coast of the north-eastern Miyagi prefecture, an area badly hit by the March 2011 tsunami that devastated a large swathe of coast, killing thousands. People have been urged to move to higher ground. Initial reports put the epicentre near to that of the March 11, 2011 quake that sparked a devastating tsunami. The quake shook buildings as far away as Tokyo and Shinkansen bullet trains have been suspended between Tokyo and Odawara. Nuclear plant operator Tokyo Electric Power said there were no reports of further damage at the crippled Fukushima nuclear plant. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre says there is no risk of a Pacific-wide tsunami from the quake.

Rover finds evidence of ancient water on Mars

If the Curiosity rover had been sent to Mars in ancient times, it might have found itself sinking in a stream.

The 2,000-pound super-rover, which made its now-legendary landing on Mars on August 6, has come across stones in conglomerate rock suggesting that water must have flowed there in the past.

Emma Watson in L.A

Emma Watson in L.A

Emma Watson didn't need any Harry Potter type magic or trickery to find some good shopping in Los Angeles! The 17-year old British actress, best known for her role of Hermione Granger in the popular Harry Potter series, hit the stores on Robertson for the TV news show Access Hollywood. With show host Maria Menunous taking her around, Watson found herself being interviewed while trying on Kitson shoes at the LA shopping hotspot, and trying on the popular OmniPeace tank top that is in the closets of American actresses Courteney Cox Arquette and Jennifer Aniston. Because it had been Maria's 29th birthday the previous day, the Access Hollywood host decided that Emily should have a Sprinkles cupcake to have the full Los Angeles experience! Her favorite was the "red velvet," and as far as her shopping style went, she told Maria that unlike her character Hermione, who's a bookwormish tomboy, in her real life she loves "girlie things."
